Why Not Just Say Diet?

Because as you could probably tell from our other articles, there are plenty of methods for losing weight, but fat is really the only thing you really want to lose.

Maybe you're noticing fat clinging to your belly or other places you'd rather it didn't and tired of buying larger clothes. Who wouldn't be? Being overweight has so many disadvantages, it's amazing. It puts you at greater risk for diabetes and heart disease. It negatively effects how you feel... often tired and less able to perform routine activities. It can lead to feeling depressed and unattractive.

It also has a negative effect on how you are perceived. This goes beyond jokes about having too many donuts. Even though these assumptions may be completely inaccurate, overweight people (especially women) are often judged by others to be less attractive, less motivated, less intelligent and lower class than thinner people. These negative perceptions can hamper relationships, health, and even career pay and advancement!

Luckily for most people, being overweight is something that can be overcome without surgery. Making the commitment to start now (not tomorrow) is the hardest part.

Successful dieting is NOT about making you feel miserable.

Most people learn about diets as children when they overhear adults complaining about the inconvenience or irritation of sticking to a diet. So we all start out with the idea that a diet is a sacrifice that will make you feel deprived and unhappy. No wonder we put it off!

Much less was known in the past about how to control weight through eating and exercise, and most people believed that it was necessary to starve yourself down (by eating as little as possible) to lose weight. We know better now!

Learning to make adjustments to what you eat, when, and in what proportions can make all the difference. Diet meal plan programs like Jenny Craig use one-on-one counseling to help you achieve your weight loss goals. You can see how the system works here.

There are several modern ways to lose weight.

Most of the successful methods involve the help of other people.

While you might not like the idea of working with someone else, having expertise about nutrition and fitness is very important to make you feel your best while you are dieting and to ensure your weight loss process is effective and not harmful to your body.

Consulting a nutritionist and having a custom diet plan made for you is an option. You can figure out how to tweak your current eating behavior so you can start losing weight effectively and safely. The down side of this: It's expensive and dieters have to take time to learn to cook new dishes or prepare two meals at a time (one for them, one for their family).

Online weight-loss plans are the newest (and some of the most affordable) tools out there. These plans have shown a huge growth in popularity because they have resources like shopping lists, workout routines, meal plans, progress tracking and more. Regular support from a fitness coach or counselor has been shown to be a major factor in keeping the weight off once you lose it.

Programs like Jenny Craig are very easy to follow because they offer everything you'd need, including counseling, information and pre-prepared meals. If you are worried that you can't stick to a diet or just don't know where to start, Jenny Craig is a great option.
