We are normal people (not medical professionals) that are just sick of being fed one ridiculous diet scam after another. It's almost pathetic how difficult it is to get a new beneficial drug out on the market, while no one seems to care that these fad diets (which are much less grounded in research) are pushed on the public like a miracle solution. Many of them have the potential to be really harmful to your health, set up by fly-by-night companies that will just fold under when lawsuits start to spring up. Who has protected the public from those?

It's easy to believe in this stuff, when we are in an age where western science hasn't explained everything and we see the benefits of some forms of eastern medicine. We have western science treating your illness to make it go away as quickly as possible. Then there is eastern medicine mysteriously treating your body to make it healthier and more resistant to issues. Finally there are the fad diet scams that combine what we love about both... mysterious and making your body miraculously healthy overnight. The only problem as a doctor we know put it is "those diet things are a bunch of hooey."

We're not even against herbal supplements, as it might seem from reading our articles. Some herbs are fantastic and very healthful, maybe they are just too varied and chemically complex to analyze and evaluate... maybe that's why they're thrown out into the eastern medicine free-for-all. Manufacturers in the past have been responsible for regulating their own products... conflict of interest anyone? There have been some more recent developments in legislation that aim to protect consumers by giving the FDA the authority to oversee manufacture of supplements to ensure you're getting what the label says you are getting and that the product is uncontaminated. (Yeah, kind of scary no one was doing that before).

It's really the advice of how to use herbal supplements and cleanser/ detoxifiers that tick us off. From reading pages on the internet, its obvious there is no qualification necessary to tell you how to use these products. The "secrets" are often almost as dumb as that old wives tale about using Sprite or (chuckle) 7-up as a birth control. We just wanted to make a site (while sadly dispelling the fun fantasy of 25 pounds of fat just flying off your belly) that could maybe stop a few people from hurting themselves. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, nutritionist or a certified holistic medicine practitioner about these products before you trust anyone else's advice. It might also be wise to take advice with a grain of salt from someone who actually sells the product themselves. Informing yourself really increases your chances of getting a solution that has some efficacy, and one which is less likely to be harmful to you.

If we were to give any advice it would be pretty boring: the safe and healthy way to lose weight is through good diet and exercise. We put up links of more time-tested products and internet merchants where you are likely to find good value. Let us know how it goes and we wish you the best of luck with your health.
